Adventures with Engines.

Well it’s all go around here. School trips, birthdays, Summer Fair, visits from long lost friends, Cub and Beaver Camp, Tour de France…. So exciting. And then it will be summer holidays and there will be cries of “Mum, I’m bored”!! It never rains, but it pours!!! So expect the blogging to be erratic but do not fear, I have not deserted you!!

This past weekend has been no exception. It has been thoroughly exciting and entertaining but also exhausting. We have been away camping to the (please do your best Jeremy Clarkson impression when reading this bit) “Pageant of Power” at Cholmondeley Castle in Cheshire. Some friends suggested we meet up there as all the boys would enjoy it – lots of cars, bikes, planes, helicopters…. The perfect weekend for petrol heads! So we set off straight after school on Friday. The weekend started with some of this…

Status Quo played live – not really my thing but suitable for four small boys. I have to (very quietly) admit they were rather good (and now I feel so terribly uncool and old!!!!). Small boys loved it and there was much head banging and air guitar to be seen.

After a late night, with a rubbish amount of sleep on the noisy campsite, we had breakfast watching lotuses and morgans drive past our tent, listening to the sound of revving engines as cars and bikes screamed around the circuit. Then we went to explore.

Those are just a very few of the vehicles we saw. A tiny taster. It really was a feast for a petrol head’s senses… the sights, the sounds, the smells. A banquet of modern, classic and historical super cars and bikes with extra vehicles in the air and on the water.

On the Saturday night there was another concert followed by fireworks but we planned not to go (it being opera type stuff and not so interesting to small boys) choosing good company, food and beer with friends instead. Some chill out time after all the excitement. We had a wonderful view of the fireworks from the campsite for free too. On Sunday morning we did our packing up to the sound of engines and tyres squealing round the track. We said goodbye to our friends and went to watch a few more of the vehicles doing laps from the edge of the campsite. When we got home hot, bubbly baths were required (festival facilities… ick!). Now we are back to the routine (if you can call it that at this time of year) and recovering from the late nights.

What’s next?? Well Little J is on a school trip today and Big J has a bun sale tomorrow, Friday is non uniform day then it’s the usual Saturday swimming and karate, then Little J has a party to go to on Sunday….

What are you up to?? Is it as mad where you are???

  1. I could tell you about all the things I was / am meant to be doing. What is actually happening is: lots of reading, listening to The Goldfinch audio book, watching films, watching an episode of The IT Crowd and The Inbetweeners a day (ish) sitting with an ice pack on my calf and trying not to complain too much!

  2. Looks like ‘a good time was had by all.’ Quiet round here though I did go to the cinema with my son yesterday. Saw ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ with Tom Cruise. I enjoyed it – a sort of real life video game! Then my son and I played Mario Kart on the Wii and I actually beat him once which is a rare occurence.
